Who is responsible for your data?

The data controller is Jake Boland, sole trader, based in Ireland. He runs AI Course Check (aicoursecheck.com and aicoursecheck.co.uk) and ai-courses.ie. This notice covers aicoursecheck.com. To contact him, use the email address in the Contact section below.

It also covers the UK section at aicoursecheck.com/uk/, which replaced aicoursecheck.co.uk.

What do we collect, and why?

We collect three kinds of data, set out below. We don’t use your data for advertising, we don’t sell it, and we don’t build profiles of individual visitors.

What do we keep when you send us something?

If you report an error, we get your message and the page address. We get your email address only if you give it. We use the report to check and fix the record. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in keeping facts accurate (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). We keep the report until it is resolved.

What technical data do we need to deliver the site?

Our hosting provider’s logs record your IP address and browser type. We use them to deliver the site, keep it secure and count total page views. Cloudflare also tells our site which country your connection comes from and, in the US, which state. We use that only to decide which analytics rules apply to you, and we don’t store it. Our lawful basis is legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)). The hosting provider sets how long the logs are kept.

What do we learn about how you use the site?

Google Analytics records how you use the site. That means the pages you view, the searches and filters you use, and the links you click, including links to issuers. It also records your device type, your approximate location from your network, and two cookie IDs. We use this to see which pages are useful and to improve the site. We keep visit-level data for 2 months. We keep aggregate totals for year-on-year comparison.

Where you are decides whether we ask first:

What do we count without cookies?

On pages in the UK section, and on course pages when you visit from the UK, a click on a link to a course provider tells our own server which course it was and what type of page you were on. Nothing else is sent: no cookie, no ID, and we don't store your IP address or browser type. We add the click to a daily total for that course. We use the totals to see which pages and courses are useful. Visitors from the EU and the EEA are not counted.

Our lawful basis is legitimate interest (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). PECR Schedule A1 paragraph 5 allows this for statistics without consent. We keep daily totals only, and nothing per visitor. To turn it off, untick "Anonymous usage counts" in "Cookie settings" at the foot of the page. Your choice is kept in your browser.

Who processes data for us?

What are your rights?

Under the GDPR you can ask for a copy of your data, have it corrected or deleted, and object to how we use it. You can also withdraw consent or turn analytics off at any time: use “Cookie settings” at the foot of any page. To use any of these rights, email the address in the Contact section below.

You can also complain to the Data Protection Commission, the supervisory authority where the controller is based.

If you are in the UK, you can complain to us first, at the address in the Contact section below. You can also complain to the UK regulator, the Information Commission.

Cookies

Analytics cookies follow the rules above. Your choice lasts 6 months, then we ask again. See the cookie notice.
