AWS describes the candidate as someone with up to 6 months of exposure to AI/ML technologies on AWS. It suits people who use or buy AI on AWS rather than build models. The catch: it is about AWS services, so it means less if your company runs on another cloud.
Before your certification expires, you can recertify by passing the latest version of this exam, or by earning the AWS Certified Machine Learning Engineer - Associate, which will automatically recertify this certification.
Checked against Amazon Web Services on Oct 26, 2026. Last changed on Oct 15, 2026.
| Domain | Share of the exam |
|---|---|
| Fundamentals of AI and ML | 20% |
| Fundamentals of GenAI | 24% |
| Applications of Foundation Models | 28% |
| Guidelines for Responsible AI | 14% |
| Security, Compliance, and Governance for AI Solutions | 14% |
Before it expires, you pass the latest version of the exam again, or earn the AWS Certified Machine Learning Engineer - Associate, which renews it for you.
If you use Google Cloud, Generative AI Leader costs $99 plus tax. If you build on Azure, AI-901 costs $99 plus tax. See the side-by-side comparison of AWS AI Practitioner, Google Gen AI Leader and AI-901.
