Without code, start with the free Elements of AI: Introduction to AI, which gives a free certificate on passing.
Do you need math and Python to learn machine learning?
Not for a first look. Elements of AI: Introduction to AI needs no programming and only basic math. The University of Helsinki and MinnaLearn run it.
To train models yourself, you need Python. The Machine Learning Specialization covers supervised and unsupervised learning, recommender systems and reinforcement learning, with NumPy, scikit-learn and TensorFlow labs. It is beginner level, given as "2 months at 10 hours a week", on a Coursera subscription of USD 49 a month in the US and Canada.
A middle step is Elements of AI: Building AI, the follow-on to Introduction to AI: 50 hours on the algorithms behind AI methods, at intermediate level. The course is free; its shareable certificate costs 50 EUR.
Which machine learning courses are free?
Harvard's CS50's Introduction to Artificial Intelligence with Python teaches search, optimization, learning and neural networks through Python projects, over "seven weeks of material". It is intermediate, with a free CS50 certificate; the edX verified certificate is paid.
Principles of Artificial Intelligence from Eotvos Lorand University is beginner level, has drag-and-drop exercises and quizzes and is given as "1-4 weeks", with a free certificate.
fast.ai's Practical Deep Learning for Coders has "9 lessons, and each lesson is around 90 minutes long", covering random forests, tabular data and collaborative filtering as well as deep learning. fast.ai doesn't say whether there is a certificate.
Which machine learning programs go further?
The IBM AI Engineering Professional Certificate runs to 13 courses for data scientists, ML engineers and software engineers, from scikit-learn and Apache Spark pipelines to Keras and PyTorch. It is intermediate, given as "4 months at 10 hours a week" on a Coursera subscription. On AWS, the AWS ML Engineer Associate Learning Plan is advanced and takes 25 hours 25 minutes, from data preparation through deployment to monitoring and security. AWS doesn't state its price.
Which machine learning certifications can you take?
Recommended order: courses mainly about Machine learning first, then open now, wide audience, beginner level and lower cost. The 9 courses shown above are not repeated here unless you filter or search. How we order courses.
